There’s lots of things that can go wrong with a hot water heater. Some of the most common problems we see include:
Like anything else, our hot water heaters are subject to damage and decay over time. The good news is, just because your hot water heater stopped working, doesn’t necessarily mean you need to replace it. In some cases, a simple repair will do.
If you aren’t sure what’s wrong with your hot water heater, call our Leamington Plumbers today. We can send a plumber out for a consultation. If we can’t spot what is wrong by eye, we can run a diagnostic test on your hot water heater to determine the problem. From there, we can let you know whether you need a simple repair, or whether it will be a better value to completely replace your water heater.
If it’s time to replace your water heater, one of our knowledgeable team members can sit down with you to discuss your options. There are several different types of hot water heaters:
These are the types of water heaters that are the most familiar and are the most common in Canadian homes. These heaters keep your water at a consistent temperature so that you always have hot water available to you. The downside is that this means you are constantly consuming energy, even if the hot water is not running.
Solar water heaters are an eco-friendly option that use the energy from the sun to heat your water. These water heaters are rarely used on their own and generally require the use of an electric or gas heater as well. When used together, your solar heater can generate up to 60% of the hot water needed for your home. The rest of the hot water is generated by your additional heater. Solar hot water heaters are excellent for energy conservation but are rarely seen used alone.
If you have a small home or are looking to save some space, you may want to go with a tankless water heater. These types of heaters don’t require a storage tank, so they take up much less room than traditional hot water heaters. They also provide you with consistent hot water, and actually save up to 30% more energy than regular heaters.
The downfall is that the amount of hot water may be limited. This means that using hot water in multiple areas at the same time may not be possible. You may not, for example, be able to have a hot shower while running your washing machine at the same time.
These heaters capture warm air from the surrounding environment and transfer it to your water heater. These water heaters can help to save energy, but we don’t generally recommend them in Canadian climates. While they can be beneficial in the summer, they can increase your bills in the winter by removing warm air from the surroundings.
